Blattner Sky Ranch Solar Construction SWPPP Permitting

Blattner energy & wsb, belen, nm, 2022

Background
Blattner Energy is working to build solar and wind farms across the US with the goal of generating clean energy. The Blattner Sky Ranch Energy Center in Belen, New Mexico, is a large-scale solar farm spanning 1,900 acres of land. Designed to provide reliable energy for the developing area across Interstate 25, the project includes solar panels that can generate up to 190 megawatts of clean and renewable energy.

Strengths & Solutions
During the final project development in 2022, Young Environmental worked with the team at WSB to help design the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) for construction of both the solar site and the two-mile gravel access road. Using the Environmental Protection Agency’s SWPPP narrative template, we developed a site-specific plan for this large project. We also completed a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for site compliance.

Project Impact
While the project didn’t significantly affect the amount of stormwater runoff in the area, the SWPPP and NPDES permits will help Blattner Energy ensure that they are successfully managing stormwater runoff at the new project site, constructed in late 2022.
